PARTNERSHIP OF GENERATIONS
St. Andrew's History
St. Andrew's began in 1906 with a newspaper
notice placed by the Rev. George King seeking Episcopalians interested
in forming a church in the Green Lake area. A small group began attending
services on Sunday afternoon in an upstairs room. Thanks to a gift of
property from the Trenholme family and an $800 loan, the first St. Andrew's
was built in 1909 adjacent to Green Lake.
In 1944, the Rev. Charles Mentzer became the first full time priest of
the growing mission. Members of the congregation were active in diocesan
programs, and the church school program developed by Gladys Canedy was
used throughout the diocese.
In March of 1956, the current church building was dedicated, and St. Andrew's
became a parish two years later. Because of the growth of the church school,
a multi-purpose parish building (now "Mentzer House") was added in 1969.
In 1998, under the Partnership of Generations funding plan, a 3-year financial commitment from parish families financed a construction plan that included a new organ, expanded altar space, new sanctuary floor, stained glass, new lighting, and an accessibility ramp to the altar area.
