St. Andrew's is a greening congregation in partnership with Earth Ministry - a local non-profit organization committed to engaging the Christian community in environmental stewardship. Creation Keepers seeks to increase the focus of care for God's creation in St. Andrew's facilities, programs & worship, as well as encourage & support individuals in taking steps in their personal lives towards a more sustainable future.
Some of the initiatives Creation Keepers is currently supporting are shade grown coffee at church events, greening the building and grounds, raising awareness and action addressing climate change, improving our level of recycling around the church building & offices, as well as food & faith issues, like eating locally, lower on the food chain & eating in community. Also getting to know the local & regional environment through field trips, i.e., summer wildflower hikes, Orca watch, local arboreta visits. Creation Keepers hosts a demonstration garden & provides for on-site composting.
Creation Keepers has recently received a grant from Seattle Public Utilities to systematically organize recycling, on-site composting & waste management as well as doing outreach to the larger community. We plan to do some workshops in Spring 2010 around this topic.
Creation Keepers meets about once a month on Sunday after the 10 a.m. service. If you are interested in participating or learning more about Creation Keepers, please contact:
