May 23 and May 30, 2018 (5:45 – 7:15 p.m.) ~ The Chapel of the Resurrection
The Center is offering a two-part introduction to Hildegard of Bingen on Wednesdays, May 23 and May 30 after the Centering Prayer practice that begins at 5:45 p.m. After a break at 6:15 p.m. we will focus on a 12th century Benedictine Abbess who was a “renaissance” person before the renaissance, a visionary, scientist, artist, musician, and writer. Belatedly in 2012, she was canonized as a saint and made a Doctor of the Catholic Church. The first session will focus on Hildegard as a Visionary leader of extraordinary creative power. A few colored illuminations of her visions will be reflected on. The second session will be an overview of Hildegard’s Writings including musical chants and poetry. Though she lived in a medieval world and understanding, we will consider what healing gifts and insights she offers us for today. We will listen to some of her music and may watch a clip from one of several films that have been made about her.
If you have registered for the icon workshop, these evenings will give you background on Hildegard or a review and some inspiration for your plunge into icon writing. Or perhaps the evenings will prompt you to take the plunge of signing up for the icon workshop! Spaces are still available! All are welcome!
Join us for Centering Prayer, followed by some simple snacks, some teaching about Hildegard, and spiritual exercise and reflection led by Sister Dorothy-Anne Kiest. We will conclude at 7:15.
