Centering Prayer

On Wednesday nights

"Centering prayer-- I keep hearing about that. One of these days I will look into it."

Some of you have heard that inner voice and recently took the "All About Centering Prayer" class offered through the Center for Christian Formation. If you missed, don't worry, you
have another chance to learn about centering prayer and to experience it.

An ongoing weekly centering prayer group meets each Wednesday at 5:45 PM in the chapel. All are welcome whether you have centering prayer experience or not.

Here is what to expect:
We will gather either in silance or to an accompaniment of Gregorian chant, Taize songs, or other contemplative music. At 5:50 PM the door will be closed and left ajar. (If you arrive after this time, please enter quietly to join us.) The facilitator will read a short passage of a Psalm, other scripture, or sacred poetry and then sound the bowl, a smaller version of the bowl used on Sunday morning to signal silent reflection. Then we will sit for our prayer period. At the end of twenty minutes the facilitator will sound the bowl again and repeat the reading. At that time people are free to leave in silence.

If you are interested, but uneasy because you have never done centering prayer before, plan to arrive by 5:30 PM to receive a little instruction on the method of centering prayer.
